"I give you thanks, O Lord, with all my heart." Psalm 138:1 (NLT)
The Thanksgiving holiday is a good time to focus on our blessings and declare our gratitude to God.
In 1621, following harvest, the pilgrims set aside a time of Thanksgiving to God. Much like we enjoy a day with family and friends, they celebrated with deer and turkey hunted by the men, and corn, beans, and pumpkins the women cooked. Even the children gathered nuts and berries from the woods.
Indians joined the Pilgrims for a three-day feast. The Indians listened as the Pilgrims read the Bible and raised special prayers of thanksgiving to God. It was a happy time of fellowship in what we would consider very sparse surroundings. God was pleased and received their words of thanks.
However, thanks must become a daily, hourly, even a minute by minute occasion in our lives. Thanksgiving is woven through . . . |

Mission work is an important part of the church where my family is a member. Last week my husband, Jerry, was asked to take the Associational Disaster Shower Trailer to a small church in Northwest Arkansas. There, it would be used by workers constructing a mission for the church.
This trailer is about 30 feet long and is pulled by a ton extended cab pickup. Needless to say, the gas mileage is not very good. My husband thought he could make it to a town about ten miles further down the interstate, but the truck suddenly came to a standstill and he realized he was out of gas.
Before he and his friend, Don, who was making the trip with him, could even think about what to do next, a vehicle pulled up fairly close to them. The gentleman in the van had seen the Disaster Relief Shower signs on the trailer and wanted to know if he could help them.
After Jerry produced a can, Don made the trip with the gentleman to get gas. On the short trip Don discovered their highway helper was . . . |

Today I received a sweet smile from my grandson Levi. I cherish that look that he saves for special times.
My family is so filled with females. A sister, two daughters, a niece and three precious granddaughters make up our immediate kindred on my side of the family. My husband has succumbed to being surrounded by girls in his own household and at family gatherings. Hugs and kisses are abundant as we interweave our lives together.
And then nine years ago God saw fit to bless us with a male. He is a perfect little grandson who captured us all immediately. We soon learned that Levi doesn?t enjoy the cooing, loving and cuddling that the girls share. Instead, he has a rare special smile that tugs at my heart. Most of the time he is a rough and tumble boy, but when especially pleased or happy, Levi sends you this most gorgeous smile. In his short nine years I have found myself watching his face often for that special smile.
Yesterday his sister Brooke and I were at a store shopping when we spotted a plastic water gun that we knew Levi would like for playing in their swimming pool. Adding it to our cart I could . . . |

It has happened again!
Hurricane Dennis slammed into the Florida coast of the United States only ten months after Ivan did so much damage in the same area. Structural damage does not appear to be as massive, but millions are without electrical power and trees and signs are blown over the land. Beach erosion has eaten close to businesses and homes.
Volunteers are being called out en masse to assist those who had to bear the brunt of another major hurricane.
Jesus told the disciples that true greatness comes in serving others. In our world today greatness is measured by personal achievement. But in Christ?s Kingdom serving others is the way to get ahead.
Immediately following the passing of Hurricane Dennis, Red Cross volunteers . . . |

Seven year-old Brooke spent the night at Grandma and Granddaddy?s during the summer break from school. Since she only has an older brother, Brooke enjoys coming here where our other granddaughters have their Barbies and CD players.
We had all stayed up late the night before but Brooke was up early the next morning. As I walked down the hall I heard sweet sounds coming from her closed bedroom door. Gently I knocked on the door and peeped in to see what Brooke was singing.
There she sat in the middle of the bed with the earphones on. Her face was alive with the music and I could hear her singing about pure water flowing around. About pure water so deep that it made her soul at ease. I knew these were some of the words from a Christian CD. Brooke smiled at me and didn?t miss a beat as she sang about the storms of life that wouldn?t pull her down. It pleased this grandmother that my seven year-old granddaughter was singing about being made free by the pure . . . |
