For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Phil. 3:18
Many of us have shed tears of sorrow over the death of a friend. Tears of disappointment may fall when we do not get our way. Most of our tears are selfish, caused by personal pain.
Do we ever shed tears because other people have not found the true joy of Christ? Paul preached Christ crucified and risen again. His joy in Christ was real and personal. He wanted to share it with every sinner. In our text he is moved to tears when he sees some live as enemies of the cross of Christ. They are enemies because they ignore the cross. Their god is their own appetite. This would of materal goods is their limit. They have pride in owning things. Life is a daily quest to satisfy the craving of shameful lust. Paul is in tears, for their end is destruction. Without faith in Christ they are lost in eternal death.
Christian friends, Our tears are for the family and the neighbors who live for the god of appetite and material goods, whose end is destruction unless they find joy of Christ through His cross.
Jesus came to bring us life Abundant living, full and free; Trusting Him to save and keep us Gives us joy the world can see.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - Jesus has made it possible for us to live a life of joy and hope in a world of despair and tears.
