"When Your Words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart's delight, for I bear Your name, O LORD God Almighty." Jeremiah 15:16 (To be continued Saturday and after Memorial Day.)
All of us have items that we cherish. I have many favorite books, even several from my childhood days. My most cherished ones are my religious ones with the Bible my most used.
God, being the Author of the Bible presented it to the world. Through these Scriptures He continues to show us the way to life eternal and how to live a life pleasing to Him. However, we find that we have failed to His will at all times. The Law mirrors our sins and shortcomings. But we learn also that God is a forgiving Father in Christ. He never closes the door on us as we plead for mercy and forgiveness. We as Christians should say, "I love this Book."
Christian friends, God has placed the Bible into our hands to be an open Book. Many people never choose to pick it up, too busy with the affairs of this sinful world.
Grandmother always had slips of paper in empty gelatin capsules with a Scripture text for us to choose one everyday. By supper time we were to have it memorized. After Grandfather had read the Bible and gave prayer we gave for memory our verse. Grandfather would then explain the verse while we ate and told us how to apply it to our lives. He would also say "Let the verse speak to you"
Select a verse from today's Scripture to memorize. Write it down and review it throughout the day. Ask God to help you understand its teaching, and how to apply its promise to your life.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - Reading the Bible without reflecting on it is like eating without chewing. ( another quote from Grandfather.)
