"Come, let us build us a city and a tower, and let us make us a name."
- Genesis 11:4

The people who built the tower of Babel experienced difficulties in Gen. 11:1-9. That tower represented an undertaking by a community of citizens determined to make a name for themselves. They meant it to be a magnificent structure symbolizing their unity and opposition to God. In their attempt to achieve recognition, He apprehended them in His own way by breaking down their communication system and thwarting their man-center, God-defying objectives.
