THE TRANSFIGURATION OF OUR LORD

Heb. 3:1-6
Luke 9:28-36
Psalm 77
The Epiphany season ends in a blaze of glory, with this incredible
mountaintop experience. During the last months the light has been
gathering in intensity, from a gentle star pointing the way to the
stable, to brilliant, blinding radiance upon the mountain.
During the weeks that comprise the Epiphany season, we see the identity
of Jesus drawing on those around Him; the people of His home
congregation, the fishermen He calls, the great crowds who pursue Him.

THE TRANSFIGURATION OF OUR LORD
"This is the day the LORD hath made, let us rejoice and be glad in it."

The Epiphany season ends in a blaze of glory, with this incredible mountaintop experience. During the last months the light has been gathering in intensity, from a gentle star pointing the way to the stable, to brilliant, blinding radiance upon the mountain.
During the weeks that comprise the Epiphany season, we see the identity of Jesus drawing on those around Him; the people of His home congregation, the fishermen He calls, the great crowds who pursue Him. Now as Christ is immersed in prayer, the voice from heaven is heard once again, speaking this time to all who will hear; "This is My Son, My Chosen; listen to Him"
Today we go to the mountain top with Jesus, Peter, James and John and we look at the face of Jesus revealed in all His glory. With them we see God face to face and see the light of His salvation. It is a light that penetrates the darkness of the sinful world that we live in, and the sin that so often darkens our lives. We pray that this glimpse of His light and glory will carry us faithfully through the darkness of the valley to the glory that await us. May the face of our LORD shine upon us and be gracious to us, look upon us with kindness, and give us peace.
Fulfiller of the past,
Promise of things to be,
We hail Your body glorified
And our redemption see.
PRAY - O God, in the glorious transfiguration of Your only-begotten Son, You once confirmed the mysteries of the faith by the testimony of the ancient fathers, and in the voice that came from the bright cloud You wondrously foreshowed our adoption by grace. Therefore mercifully make us coheirs with our King of His glory, and bring us to the fullness of our inheritance in heaven. Amen
