WEDNESDAY OF HOLY WEEK

Does this week not grow heavy upon us? As the feet of Jesus approach ever nearer the Judgment Hall, we feel the burden of our sin press down upon Him. Surely it is not easy to walk with Him on this way, knowing that He carries our sin and having to see Him stumble and fall under the burden of our cross.

What must this day have been like for Jesus? Luke indicates that Jesus spent Monday through Wednesday of Holy Week at the temple teaching.  Then in the evenings He would go to the Mount of Olives to relax, pray, and sleep. Some call it "silent" Wednesday.

On this Wednesday before Passover, Jesus and His disciples retreated to the Mount of Olives for prayer and rest. The next day the paschal lamb would be killed for their meal. Jesus' words of comfort at this time strengthened His disciples and drew them closer to Himself. But Judas shamefully plotted to betray his Master for a few pieces of silver. Some call this day "Spy" Wednesday.

There are times when we need to rest and pray, and today is an excellent day to spend with God in His word and in prayer. Some may ask, "What will happen if I do?" Good question. I do not know the answer to that question, but we learn in Scripture that God will bless you as you meditate on His word and spend time with Him in prayer. Tomorrow, Maundy Thursday, is a significant day. Following that comes Good Friday. Today is a good day for fine-tuning.

Our only hope is that the LORD will "remember what has befallen us," that He will "behold, and see our disgrace." The disgrace of Jesus is our disgrace and our disgrace is His. There is no other way. We must walk this week in His footsteps so that our way becomes His way and His way becomes our way.  And both..His and ours...is the way of the cross...which is the way to the Father.

Jesus is the Living Water, Just one drink will make us whole; Drawing daily from that Wellspring brings refreshment to the soul.

JESUS CHRIST IS THE RECURRING THEME IN THE SYMPHONY OF SCRIPTURE.

PRAY - Help me LORD, my God. Save me according to Your steadfast love. Let me find refuge in the cross of Christ today. Amen
