Thomas said to him,"LORD, we don't know where You are going, so how
can we know the way?" Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and
the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."
- John 14:5,6
In a simple manner Thomas thinks Jesus is speaking of a literal road He
plans to use. Time and again the disciples amaze us with their dullness
in the face of Jesus' words. Their seeming inability to grasp the truth
causes us to wonder. But honest reflection on our own failure to
understand and, especially to trust in Jesus' words ourselves should
lead us to see that Thomas' reaction is not so surprising. In contrast,

Jesus does not rebuke Thomas for his words. His response pursues His desire to assure and comfort. Far from not knowing, Thomas and the rest do know the way and the place to which Jesus is going. Throughout the section Jesus comforts His followers with what they had previously learned and experienced. Their lessons, knowledge and experiences of the past three years were now to be applied through trust in their LORD.
Christian friends, There are no two ways about it. Jesus doesn't ask for our vote as the most appealing condidate for Savior of the world. He simply states His lordship of the universe and demands our allegiance. Does He have yours?
Thou art the Way, the Truth, the Life;
Grant us that Way to know,
That Truth to keep, that Life to win,
Whose joys eternal flow.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - Christ is the only door into heaven.
