St. John's Day

Read Colossians 3:12-16

Saint John, whose day of remembrance this is, was the beloved disciple, the one who captured in the greatest detail the lessons and word of our LORD. It was also John who remembered and recorded his "comfortable words": "Peace I leave with you" John 14:27, "Do not let your hearts be troubled" John 14:1 and John who understood the enormous love of God more clearly than the other gospel writers and who, having understood it so well, then preserved its perfect statement: "God so loved the world" John 3:16.

Love is the bond that hold us in perfectness, and the peace of God is . . .

St.

Love is the bond that hold us in perfectness, and the peace of God is that to which we are called in one body. The word of Christ, that which was most central to John's understanding of his LORD, is to dwell in us while we, as creatures singing and full of grace, teach and admonish one another.

For your beloved disciple
Exiled to Patmos' shore,
And for his faithful record,
We praise you evermore.
Praise for the mystic vision
His words to us unfold.
Instill in us his longing
Your glory to behold.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - Christlikeness is never out of style.
