We were made happy at Christmas by many things. We were thrilled by the beautiful Christmas music sung to the glory of God. We heard the glorious Christmas Gospel proclaiming the birth of the Christ Child. But Christmas is past. Now what?
It is well to inquire what effect the Christmas festivities have had on us. Are we doers of the Christmas Gospel? Or have we been hearers only? If so, we are deceiving ourselves, and the beauties of Christmas will soon fade.
To be a "doer " of the Christmas Gospel includes two things. First, our hearing of the story of God's love manifested toward all mankind in the Christ Child must be marked by genuine faith, if such hearing is not to have been in vain. We must accept in sincere faith the Christ of Christmas as Heaven's own Savior and trust Him for our salvation. Such faith assures the blessings of Christmas.
Christian frineds, It is natural to want God to hear and answer us, but the greater issue is whether we listen and respond to Him. Does God have your attention today? Are you choosing to be voice-activated by every word from Him? Then shall we be doers of the Word heard at Christmas and be blessed in our deed.
God who formed worlds by the power of His Word
Speaks through the Scriptures His truth to be heard;
And if we read with the will to obey,
He by His Spirit will show us His way.
