"And whosoever of you would be the chiefest, shall be servant of all."
- Mark 10:35-45

The conductor of our orchestra in high school ask us one day which instrument was the most difficult to play. We all guessed the instrument we were playing. He said, "The second fiddle. I can get plenty of first violinists, but to find someone who can play second fiddle with enthusiasm, that's the problem. And if we have no second fiddle, we have no harmony."

Many people feel unimportant because their place in life seems small and insignificant. They always stand in the shadow of those who are prominent and successful, and receive little or no recognition. I played second string base.

Now God doesn't intend that we be content to remain nobodies. He wants us to be ambitious and industrious to set high goals for ourselves.Yet He calls many of us to fill positions in life that are not in the limelight. He asks us to assume supportive roles. He holds before us the potential for true greatness, and that lies in doing each task as humble service to our fellowmen.

In God's orchestration of life, all of His children are important. If we humbly assume the servant role, we are actually 'the chiefest' even though we play "second fiddle."

Find out what God would have you do,
And do that little well,
For what is great and what is small
'Tis only He can tell.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: HUMBLE work becomes HOLY work when done for the service of man and the glory of God.
